• Learn The Value Of The Cards
One of the first things a card player needs to understand about blackjack is that suit doesn't matter. The only thing that matters at the blackjack table is the point value of each card and of each hand: The ace is worth 1 point or 11 points, whichever is most advantageous to the player. All face cards, the jack, queen, and king, are worth 10 points each. All other cards in the deck are worth whatever the numeric value of each card.

• Blackjack Basic Strategy
Basic strategy uses math to determine a recommended course of action for any hand. Use this handy chart, based on the cards you have and the card the dealer is showing, to determine whether to split (SP), stand (S), hit (H), or double-down (D). Just match up what your cards add up to on the left and what the dealer's card is on the top. Then just match up where the row and column intersect. For example, if you have an 8 & 6 = 14 and the dealer is showing an 8 then you should hit (H).
